Mexican Orchid Tree

credit: http://www.wildflowersearch.comThe Mexican Orchid Tree produces clusters of feathery white flowers from late spring to late fall.  The plant can be the size of a large shrub or a tree, growing up to 15 – 20 feet tall and spreading..  Its white flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds.   This fast growing plant prefers full to partial sun in well-drained soil.  It shows more flowers if it’s allowed to spread and flower. It is drought tolerant.

The scientific name is Bauhinia divarticata.  In Spanish the common name is Pata de Vaca and the English common name is the Mexican Orchid Tree
